MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!

• Tell your personal story to legislators of what occupational therapy means to you.
• Advocate for proposed bills that effect our profession and the community we serve.

TIME 12:00 – 2:00

• Stay as long, or little, as you like.  Any amount of support is appreciated!
• Time of the event is subject to change, due to last-minute changes in the legislative session – so please register!

DRESS CODE

• Wear your LOTA t-shirt with business casual or scrub pants 

WHERE TO GO

• New State Capital : 900 North 3rd Street Baton Rouge, LA
• Parking is allowed in any public parking lot
• We will set up our booth on the House side of the Rotunda

• As visitors and legislators walk by, we will offer them coffee and just say "I'm an occupational therapist and I'm out here today supporting my profession". It typically leads to a "what is OT" question and I like to have a prepared 1-2 sentence explanation. This can be a basic break down of our profession, what setting you specifically work in/the population you serve, or WHY you personally came into the profession
• I recommend to know who your personal legislators are. Look them up using your address at this link: https://www.legis.la.gov/legis/findmylegislators.aspx
  Legislators LOVE to here from their constituents- because they want your vote and want to impress you too!
• This year, we plan to host a friendly competition between senators and representatives. We will be offering free grip strength tests, educating the public on its relationship to overall health and the role of occupational therapy. 
• Also, a lot of the time is just talking amongst ourselves, making professional connections, and taking turns riding the elevator up to the very top for an amazing view (while a few stay behind to man the table)
