Course Description:
This 6 hour presentation highlights prosthetic options and the key components of preprosthetic and postprosthetic management of the upper limb amputee. Participants will be guided through a prosthetic training protocol. Topics covered include: edema control, desensitization, mirror therapy, myosite testing and training, prepositioning/ proportional control of the terminal device, bimanual skills training and advanced technologies. The partnership between the therapist and prosthetist will be highlighted as this is critical in providing a person with the most functional prosthesis. Therapists will participate in an interactive demonstration of myosite training and testing and hands on with Upper Limb Prosthetic components.
